Modern Slavery Act Transparency Statement
Cube Housing Ltd voluntarily publishes this statement in the spirit of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, reflecting our commitment to ethical and transparent practice across all areas of our work.
This Modern Slavery Act 2015 Transparency Statement is made by Cube Housing Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 14704211, Our registered address is 18 Whitmore Road, Birmingham, B10 0NP. We can be contacted by email at hello@cubehousingservices.com or by telephone on 0121 751 2260.
Cube Housing Ltd is an exempt social housing provider based in Birmingham. We support vulnerable adults who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or require supported accommodation and related services. We are committed to acting ethically, transparently and responsibly in all areas of our work, and to taking proportionate steps to prevent modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, servitude and exploitation in our organisation and supply chains.
1. Our Organisation, Structure and Services
Cube Housing Ltd provides supported accommodation and housing-related support services in Birmingham. Our work focuses on supporting vulnerable adults, including people who may be at risk of homelessness, social exclusion, exploitation, poor mental health, or difficulty sustaining a tenancy.
Our services include: supported accommodation; independent living skills coaching; mental health and wellbeing support; tenancy and housing support; education, training and employment support; and move-on support into more independent accommodation.
All staff working with Cube Housing Ltd are required to hold valid Disclosure and Barring Service checks appropriate to their role. We expect staff, contractors, suppliers and partner organisations to act with integrity and to raise any concerns relating to abuse, exploitation, coercion, trafficking or modern slavery.
2. Our Supply Chains
As a small-to-medium social housing provider, our supply chains are relatively straightforward. They may include: property owners, landlords and accommodation providers; repairs, maintenance and facilities contractors; cleaning, waste management and utility providers; office and IT suppliers; professional advisers; training providers; recruitment and staffing services where used; and local support, health, community and voluntary sector partners.
We recognise that modern slavery risks can exist in supply chains, particularly where work involves low-paid, temporary, casual, agency, migrant or subcontracted labour. While we consider our direct operational risk to be relatively low, we remain alert to risks in areas such as cleaning, maintenance, construction-related services, property management and agency labour.
3. Our Policies in Relation to Slavery and Human Trafficking
Cube Housing Ltd is committed to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking in its business and supply chains. Our approach is supported by internal policies including: safeguarding policies and procedures for adults at risk; safer recruitment practices, including DBS checks; staff code of conduct; whistleblowing and reporting procedures; equality, diversity and inclusion commitments; complaints and incident reporting processes; procurement and supplier management expectations; and data protection and confidentiality procedures.
4. Due Diligence Processes
Cube Housing Ltd takes a proportionate and risk-based approach to due diligence. We aim to work with reputable suppliers, contractors and partners who share our commitment to lawful and ethical working practices. Our due diligence measures include: checking the identity and suitability of staff including DBS checks; verifying right to work in the UK; reviewing the suitability of contractors before engagement; requiring compliance with applicable employment, safeguarding and anti-slavery laws; and taking appropriate action where a supplier fails to meet expected standards.
5. Risk Assessment and Management
We consider the risk of modern slavery within our direct workforce to be low because our team is UK-based, staff are recruited through controlled processes, and staff working with vulnerable adults are required to hold valid DBS certificates. However, we recognise that the people we support may themselves be vulnerable to exploitation, including criminal exploitation, financial exploitation, forced labour, sexual exploitation, coercive control or trafficking.
Possible warning signs may include a person appearing controlled by others, being unable to access their own money or documents, working excessive hours, being fearful of authorities, having unexplained injuries, frequently going missing, being subject to threats, or being housed or transported in suspicious circumstances. Our staff are expected to remain alert to these signs and raise safeguarding concerns promptly.
6. Measuring Effectiveness
We may use the following measures to assess the effectiveness of our approach: confirmation that all relevant staff hold valid DBS certificates; completion of right-to-work checks; number of staff receiving safeguarding or modern slavery awareness training; number of safeguarding concerns raised that include exploitation indicators; proportion of higher-risk suppliers subject to additional due diligence; and annual review of this statement.
7. Training and Awareness
Staff who work with vulnerable adults are expected to understand safeguarding responsibilities and to know how to report concerns. Our training and awareness arrangements include: safeguarding training for staff; awareness of modern slavery indicators; guidance on escalating concerns internally; and information on external reporting routes including the Modern Slavery Helpline.
8. Reporting Concerns
Any person who has a concern about modern slavery, human trafficking or exploitation connected with Cube Housing Ltd should report it as soon as possible.
